The coach who replaced Silipo makes his debut in the Rotterdam qualifiers, first match against Greece on Friday: “They will be great tests”
Full stop. Setterosa’s new course begins tomorrow in Rotterdam, with the World Cup qualifiers: it is the first commitment of Maurizio Mirarchi, who moved on March 2 from the bench of Settebello (assistant to Sandro Campagna) to that of the Azzurri, after his divorce from coach Carlo Silipo. The girls have been preparing in recent days in the federal center of Trieste, where Mirarchi coaches the A-1 men’s team: “We have worked intensely, both physically and tactically, trying to build a clear playing identity and lay the foundations for the future. I have seen great availability and commitment. It will be an extremely demanding test – explains the coach – with the strongest teams in the world. We want to be competitive in every match, but beyond the result I expect signs of growth”. Mirarchi, who turned 65 on April 6, was the coordinator of the women’s youth selections and led the Under 20 team, which finished fourth in last year’s World Cup in Brazil. His list of achievements includes a bronze at the Universiade in Germany, again in 2025. Marco Manzetti is his deputy, confirmed on the staff like team manager Elena Gigli.
