The fire broke out around 1:00 PM in a detached house in Garzebekeveldstraat in Adinkerke. The fire brigade from the Westhoek zone was able to quickly extinguish the fire. However, the house suffered heavy damage and is temporarily uninhabitable. One resident was taken to hospital under the supervision of the MUG (Mobile Urgency Group). The woman reportedly suffered serious burns. Two local residents who first tried to extinguish the fire were taken to hospital as a preventive measure to be checked for smoke intoxication. A dog did not survive the fire.
Mayor Wim Janssens arrived on site to assess the situation and support the residents. The public prosecutor’s office sends an expert to the scene to determine the cause.
