Fans take a stand

In the power struggle between club president Werner Gegenbauer and investor Lars Windhorst, Hertha fans took a stand with a huge poster.

“Windhorst and Gegenbauer out” was emblazoned across the upper tier of the east stand of the Olympic Stadium during the Berlin Bundesliga derby against 1. FC Union on Saturday.

There was a long-simmering dispute between the club boss and the financier recently erupted. windhorst demanded the release counter pawn at the general meeting planned for May. In view of the lack of sporting success, the financial investor complains that the around 375 million euros that he has made available since 2019 are wasted.

The Olympic Stadium was at the local duel (here in the live ticker) sold out for the first time since January 2020 and the subsequent start of the corona pandemic with 74,667 viewers. Both rival fan camps created a tingling atmosphere in the huge arena. Shortly after the kick-off, however, several firecrackers were ignited in the Hertha block.
