The police arrested two 13-year-old boys in Tilburg on Tuesday because they were walking around with fake weapons. They may have bought these fake weapons at the King’s Day market on Korvelseweg.

According to police, bystanders were shocked and called the police. One of the two boys was arrested in Jan Heijnstraat. The other was later arrested in Sophiastraat.

The police emphasize that it is impossible to tell from a distance whether a weapon is real or fake. “If we receive a report that someone is walking around with a firearm, we take such a report very seriously and we will act as if a real weapon is involved.”

Risks
Officers wear bulletproof vests in such situations and do not take any risks. “So there is also the risk that we have to draw and/or use our weapon ourselves.”

In this case that did not happen. “But the risk is indeed present.” Weapons, which are difficult to distinguish from real ones, are therefore also prohibited in the Netherlands. “So don’t buy them!”
