Chantal Janzen faces a turbulent TV season, because there is a good chance that her new show Hitster will not be to the liking of the viewer. German media are already talking about ‘Flopster’…

Chantal Janzen is the face of the new TV show Hitster on RTL 4: the recordings have already been completed, the broadcasts will follow in the autumn. In the program, two teams of celebrities compete against each other in a game full of musical surprises in categories such as Guilty Pleasures, Summer Party, 100% NL, Rock and Film & Soundtracks.

Big drop

TV authority Tina Nijkamp fears the worst for Chantal. “The German version was also recorded at the same time as Chantal Janzen’s and it got off to a pretty good start in Germany last week, but now the second episode has been broadcast there and the viewing figures have completely collapsed,” she says in her podcast Tina’s TV Update.

Last Sunday, 980,000 people watched the German Hitster, while RTL Aktuell scored 2.2 million viewers immediately before. And the first episode of Hitster had half a million more viewers. “That is not good news for Chantal, because if it happens there…,” says Tina.

Not a nice message

This is ominous for Chantal, says Tina. “Hopefully it won’t happen in the Netherlands, because if a format drops dramatically with a second episode – it will be above a million and now below a million in Germany – then that means that the viewer simply doesn’t like the format that much. So you won’t come back to that format.”

She concludes: “It is not very promising and it is certainly not a nice message for Chantal Janzen to read that Hitster is already called Flopster there.”
