Chantal Janzen is annoyed by the criticism that the comeback season of her program The Voice of Holland is so terribly boring. “Greetings: ‘It has to be more exciting’,” sneers the RTL 4 star.
The Voice of Holland has never been as boring as it is now: after the scandal surrounding misconduct behind the scenes, the intention is apparently that it is not only safe behind the scenes, but also in front of the scenes. With the good coaches Dinand Woesthoff, Ilse DeLange, Suzan & Freek and Willie Wartaal it has become a sleep-inducing mess.
Koekwauzen
What does Chantal Janzen, presenter of The Voice, think of that criticism? “All those opinions before and during the broadcasts… We are doing more than well and it is nice that we see that reflected in the figures. I am happy with that,” she says in the A.D.
She continues: “I am of course not crazy, deaf or blind. So I also hear that it is pleasant, too pleasant, or not exciting, or I don’t know much. But guys, just get on with it after such a riot with cookie-cutter jokes that ruined the party at the time.”
Clearing debris
By cookie-cutter, Chantal is referring, for example, to Jeroen Rietbergen, Linda de Mol’s boyfriend who was the band leader of The Voice for many years. “It gave me sleepless nights and made me feel guilty, while we couldn’t do anything about it.”
She continues: “Then you come back and appoint some naughty boys as coaches? In a disaster area where there was a big fire, you first clear the rubble, right? Then you choose people you can rely on?”
On legs
Chantal fully supports the choice of these coaches. “These coaches are great artists themselves. It’s a damn job to get this going again. Can we be extremely careful about that?”
She concludes: “Greetings with ‘it has to be more exciting’, you just want candidates to feel safe and never find themselves in difficult positions again.”
