Michael van Gerwen as singer. It is a role in which we do not often see the top darts player from Vlijmen. But this weekend he was suddenly on stage with singer Mart Hoogkamer during hardstyle festival REBiRTH in Haaren.
Hoogkamer speaks to Van Gerwen outside the party tent and films that meeting for his Instagram page. “This stage here is called ‘A little dancing’,” the darts player explains to Hoogkamer. “We’ll let people dance a little here in a moment,” Hoogkamer nods. “We’re going on stage together, friend!”
Van Gerwen then looks at the artist with a surprised look. “We are going to do the last song, ‘I’m going swimming’, together,” Hoogkamer explains. Immediately high-five the appointment is made.
No sooner said than done: at the end of the performance, Van Gerwen climbs over the fences to surprise the audience with his vocal talents. While Hoogkamer announces him as ‘one of the best darts players in the world’, he takesMighty Mike‘ the microphone and starts singing. Hoogkamer cannot hide a broad smile on stage, even though he keeps his hand over his mouth…
How is Van Gerwen doing in the Premier League darts?
Van Gerwen also had something to celebrate this weekend; he did good business in the Premier League darts on Thursday. He reached the final of the tenth evening thanks to victories over Gian van Veen from Andel and the British Stephen Bunting. Although he lost against the Welshman Jonny Clayton, this performance put him more firmly in fourth place in the general classification.
If he is still there at the end of the darts competition – or higher – he can compete with the best three others for the Premier League title.
