Monday does not produce a winner at the World Cup. That’s a real rarity – but it’s not the first time it’s happened.
Four games, four draws – Monday at the 2026 World Cup produced a curiosity that last happened 68 years ago. Back then, at the 1958 tournament in Sweden, all games on a match day also ended without a winner.
At the 1958 tournament, Germany and Northern Ireland drew 2-2, England and Austria 2-2, Paraguay and Yugoslavia 3-3 and Sweden and Wales 0-0. This time Spain and Cape Verde drew 0-0. Belgium and Egypt as well as Saudi Arabia and Uruguay each played 1:1, Iran and New Zealand 2:2.
The world association FIFA then wrote on Platform X: “Perfectly balanced, as it should be.”
