De Jonge Wereld has grown: ‘We wanted a maximum of 12 children, but we ended up with 585’

She was 23 when she started independent childcare three decades ago. Initially, parents registered one child, who owner Astrid Oostra of De Jonge Wereld looked after for a year. “I had set a limit for myself: I wanted to take care of a maximum of twelve children.” That mission was not really successful. Today, De Jonge Wereld, spread over three locations in Leek, has a total of 585 children.
