Bram Van den Bunder, councilor of Mobility Avelgem: “For example, Bossuit, there is some transport poverty there. There is not always a bus that goes there quickly. That is why we now have the idea to set up some kind of lift system.”
Avelgem is perfect for such a system because the municipality is a long string with sub-municipalities on both sides of the center. A conscious choice has been made for spacious areas to hinder traffic as little as possible. “There will be eight such posts in our municipality, so one in each sub-municipality and then another four in the center. If you are in the Bossuit sub-municipality, where 400 people live, and you want to do your shopping in the center, you come and post at the post and people see you standing at the post from afar. We want to encourage everyone to bring those people along.”
It’s an idea for now, but the ride-along poles may come soon.
