(toskanews) – Irregularities in 42.7% of hospital canteensor in 238 structures of the 558 controlled throughout the national territory, of which 525 operate in the collective catering sector and 31 directly relating to the healthcare sector.
The balance of Nas checks in healthcare facilities
It is the balance sheet of the extraordinary activity carried out by the Nasthe Carabinieri for Health Protection, between February 19th and March 22nd, to verify compliance with the health and hygiene regulations and food safety in patient facilities.
Over four out of ten structures were found not to be in line with the expected standards. The main irregularities found concerned hygienic-sanitary deficiencies in the food preparation and storage areas, structural and maintenance criticalities, inadequate application of self-control procedures (HACCP), irregularities in the management and conservation of food products, with particular attention to special diets intended for vulnerable subjects.
Seizures and suspensions: the cases of Naples, Brescia and Catania
During the checks, measures were adopted, including administrative sanctions, reports to the judicial authorities and seizures of food unfit for consumption. TO Naples ea Brescia the activity of two hospital canteens was suspended, both for serious hygienic conditions and insect infestation; to Catania approximately 60 kg of food in poor condition were seized.
