Amanal Petros runs another German record at the half marathon in Berlin. The 30-year-old now holds two German records.

At the half marathon in Berlin on Sunday, Hanoverian Amanal Petros improved his own German record to 59:22 minutes. The 30-year-old was nine seconds faster than last year – at that time he was the first German to break the hour mark.

Petros had previously hoped for a time of around 59:00 minutes. He finished third at the Brandenburg Gate. The Kenyan Andrea Kiptoo took victory in a photo finish ahead of his compatriot Dennis Kipkemoi – both ran 59:11 minutes.

In addition to the half marathon record, the marathon runner-up also holds the national record over 42.195 kilometers. In December, Petros ran in Valencia in 2:04:03 hours – 53 seconds below Samuel Fitwi’s old record.

In the women’s race, Ethiopian Likina Amebaw won in 1:05:07 hours. Esther Pfeiffer from Düsseldorf was the best German in fifth place in 1:07:25 hours. Gesa Felicitas Krause from Trier finished 13th in 1:08:59 hours.
