Mexican Inez Sainz spoke openly about the sexual harassment she experienced.
Sainz is one of the most famous sports journalists in his country. He went to interview the Brazilian player acquired by the Italian club AC Milan, but was harassed.
The player stayed in a hotel in Milan, where the club asked a journalist to do an interview. According to the society, the interview at the hotel was a common practice.
Sainz arrived with a photographer. In front were the Brazilian player and his agent. The four went to the player’s suite.
The situation suddenly changed.
– The agent lured my colleague out of the room so that I would be alone with the player. That’s when I thought something was wrong, says Sainz La Copa del Burro in a podcast called Sport.cz.
The reporter described the player as setting a trap for him.
– He [pelaaja] kept getting closer. He tried to hug and kiss me. It was a terrible situation. I gathered all my strength and used my experience in taekwondo. I kicked him hard between the legs. I started banging on the door to get out.
The photographer standing on the other side of the door opened the door. The two left hurriedly.
Another incident
Sainz did not say the name of the player or the year of the events. He hid what happened for a long time because he was afraid it would affect his career.
– In retrospect, it was a bad decision.
Today, Sainz is one of the most famous sports journalists in Mexico. He has interviewed, among other things Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Roger Federer and Kobe Bryant.
Another case of harassment became public in 2010. Sainz said that members of the New York Jets team harassed him, among other things, by making lewd comments in training. The Jets owners apologized to the reporter.
