At 33 years old, Quentin Fillon Maillet is now one of the older biathletes. But he doesn’t think about ending his career anytime soon.
Five-time Olympic biathlon champion Quentin Fillon Maillet has made his career plans clear: He wants to remain active until the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps. There was recently speculation that the 33-year-old would resign.
After three gold medals in Antholz, the home games are his “next goal,” Fillon Maillet told the AFP news agency. He added: “If I commit to a four-year period, it will not just be for two weeks with a rather slim chance of success, but for the entire project.”
He sees his performance in Milan-Cortina as proof of this. Fillon Maillet said: “I showed that I am still very fit and was even one of the best performers on skis at the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina. So why not at 37?”
Even impending fatherhood doesn’t hold him back. Fillon Maillet referred to biathletes who have combined both: “I love Lydie (his partner, Note d. Red.), I love my sport and I don’t want to have to choose between one or the other. That is possible. Other biathletes have done it, such as Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, Johannes Thingnes Bø and Martin Fourcade.” And further: “This task will give me a lot. Becoming a parent is more common, becoming an Olympic champion is rarer, but both at the same time – that’s really extraordinary.”
