The golfer’s car overturned on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday afternoon. The former number one was then taken to prison on charges of driving while intoxicated. President Trump: “He’s in trouble, but he remains a great friend and a fantastic person”
Tiger Woods was involved in an accident on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday afternoon, around 2pm local time: his Land Rover overturned after hitting a trailer towed by a truck at high speed. This was reported by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, which then arrested the champion. According to the first statements from the police, Woods “appeared in a clear state of alteration at the time of the officers’ arrival”. Subjected to tests, the 50-year-old was immediately arrested and taken to the Martin County Jail, where he will have to remain for at least eight hours to clarify the dynamics of the accident. Here he would have been subjected – with negative results – to an alcohol test, but he would have refused to undergo a urine test. He was charged with damage to property and driving while intoxicated. However, no one was injured in the accident.

It is not the first time that the golfer has been involved in a car accident. In 2021 he risked having a leg amputated following his SUV going off the road – also caused by high speed – on the coast road near Los Angeles. In that case he had suffered multiple fractures to his lower limbs and ankle problems which then affected his performance on the green in subsequent years. Since then, Woods has competed in 11 tournaments, never coming within 16 strokes of the winner on the four occasions he completed 72 holes. He was also arrested for drunk driving in 2017, when police in South Florida found him asleep at the wheel of his car, parked on the side of the road with clear signs of a collision. In that case, Woods had pleaded guilty to reckless driving, justifying the incident with the wrong mix of painkillers.
Trump’s comment

The news of yet another accident in which Tiger Woods was involved did not leave US President Donald Trump, a long-time friend of the golfer, indifferent. “I only know that there was a bad collision and I’m very sorry – Trump told journalists -. He is a great friend of mine and a fantastic person, but he is in a difficult moment. However, I prefer not to say anything else”.
