Hannover 96 has to pay: the DFB is now demanding a considerable amount of fines because of the fans’ pyrotechnics.

The German Football Association (DFB) asks the second division team Hannover 96 to checkout. The club was fined a total of 204,430 euros by the DFB sports court for several cases of unsportsmanlike behavior by fans.

The incidents occurred at the football match on September 13, 2025 against Hertha BSC in Hanover, at the derby on October 26, 2025 in Braunschweig and at the game against VfL Bochum on December 13, 2025 in Hanover.

At the start of the game against Hertha, 96 fans lit at least 80 pyrotechnic objects and shot off at least four batteries of fireworks, according to the control committee. Therefore, the club is fined 88,000 euros.

According to the committee, at the Niedersachsensenderby in October, at least 60 Bengal fires and a smoke pot were lit in the Hannover 96 fan block at the start of the game alone, and the game was interrupted for almost four minutes. Later, 48 Bengal fires were counted. This now costs the club 60,030 euros.

During the game against VfL Bochum, a large number of Bengal fires, as well as some rockets, were lit in the Hannover fan block. This led to short interruptions in the game in the 46th and 49th minutes. Hannover 96 has to pay a fine of 56,400 euros.

The club may use part of the penalty for its own security or violence prevention measures. The rest goes indirectly to football-related foundations, as the DFB’s donation volume is traditionally based primarily (but not exclusively) on the amount of regulatory fines.

Werder Bremen and Dynamo Dresden also have to pay because of unsportsmanlike behavior on the part of their fans. Bremen was fined 260,000 euros and Dresden had to pay 79,800 euros.
