245% more searches overnight. Puerto Rico is becoming a trendy travel destination thanks to Bad Bunny. What’s behind the sudden run on the Caribbean island?
Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl not only set a musical high point for 2026, but also sparked a significant increase in interest in Puerto Rico as a travel destination. After the globally noticed appearance on February 8th, search queries for flights and trips to the Caribbean island skyrocketed. Various travel platforms report.
Massive increase in travel inquiries
Immediately after the halftime show, flight searches to Puerto Rico increased by about 245 percent, Expedia data shows. Search queries for the capital San Juan increased particularly strongly, with growth rates there of around 240 percent. The increase was even more astonishing for Bad Bunny’s hometown of Vega Baja, where searches increased by more than 1,450 percent.
These numbers suggest that many fans want to explore not only the music, but also the cultural context of the performance.
Beyond pure travel inquiries, there are also other signs of increased interest in Puerto Rico. Searches for local specialties, cultural events and traditional products such as rum or regional cuisine also saw increased attention. For example, online searches for terms like “coquito” and “Puerto Rican rum” increased.
Halftime show as a catalyst
Bad Bunny’s show at the Super Bowl was heavily influenced by his cultural identity. The production combined his hits with symbolic elements of Puerto Rican everyday culture and Latin American joie de vivre. Such visual and musical elements seem to have had a lasting impression on the audience.
Tourism and tour
Although travel providers are reporting increasing interest, concrete booking figures are not available. Experts warn that the effect of search queries on actual trips is not automatically transferable in the long term.
For Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny’s hype could be further boosted by his planned tour on the island. Concerts in San Juan and other cities are expected to generate further attention and could attract additional visitors.
