Online shopping and searching for sustainable products: The Federal Council has made decisions that are intended to strengthen the rights of consumers.

Mandatory cancellation button is coming

Anyone who has made the wrong decision when shopping online or concluding a contract will soon be able to reverse it more easily. The Federal Council approved a change in the law that requires companies to display a clearly visible cancellation button on their website or app.

In the future, consumers should not be allowed to be manipulated with so-called dark patterns. This refers to design elements that are intended to control the behavior of consumers in such a way that they lose track of things – and then inadvertently select options that benefit the provider.

The law also brings improvements for patients. In the future, the first insight into the complete treatment file will be possible free of charge.

Harsher consequences for greenwashing

Anyone who advertises with terms such as “environmentally friendly” or “climate-neutral” on packaging, in advertisements, advertising brochures or on the Internet will have to be able to substantiate this claim in the future. Otherwise you may face a warning or even compensation.

According to the new regulations, sustainability seals may only be used if they are based on a certification system or have been set by government authorities. The new rules should apply from September 27, 2026.
