Veronica Verho told almost no one about her new job. On Wednesday, it was reported that Verho will start Radio Nova’s afternoon as the second host in February Esko Eerikäinen as a new host pair Summer Hartlin moving to the host of the morning show.
Verho tells Iltalehte that he had to lie to almost everyone during the rest of the year, both his colleagues and his loved ones.
– It was terrible! The curtain is panting on the phone.
Verho kept the matter a secret from, for example, his colleagues at Bauer Media.
– There are people there who are really dear to me, whom I have known for an unimaginably long time. They came to ask me what I was going to do next year and whether I would continue here. I just said I don’t know.
Verho mentions as an example those who work in the same radio house Janne Lehmonen and Jere Jääskeläinenwith whom he once co-hosted NRJ’s morning broadcast.
– They are important people to me, in whom I have created trust. For them, lying was like a collar that tightened on my head, Verho describes.
Verho says he is a bad liar. However, the host thought it was funny that the matter came as a surprise to almost everyone on Wednesday.
– I did have to learn to lie in a completely new way, Verho laughs.
Verho himself found out about his new job at the end of last year. Verho says that apart from his spouse, he only told his grandmother and two friends.
Looking for a home
Verho’s voice could already be heard in the fall on Radio Nova’s evening broadcasts, when the host was doing a series of quizzes on the channel. The now announced pesti is a permanent job.

The new work patterns also mean changes to Verho’s living patterns. Verho lives in Turku, while the work is in Helsinki. Life continues between the two cities.
Last fall, Verho resorted to temporary accommodation while in Helsinki. Now, however, he is looking for an apartment for himself in the capital.
– I will not give up my Turkishness. This is my hometown and a really dear place for me. I spend half the week in Turku and half the week in Helsinki.
Verho’s partner also lives in Turku. Verho says that he hopes that everything goes well with the relationship in the midst of changing living arrangements. Nowadays, communication is easy despite the distance.
– I don’t have children or anything that would hold me firmly to anything. I feel that this is not a good solution for this life situation. I want to develop in my career and do my dream job. If it requires me to be somewhere else for half the week, I’m happy to do it.
Verho says that his three-year-old dog Teppo is also traveling with him between the two cities. According to Verho, the dog is an easy case and traveling does not hinder it.
A new person
Verho says he is excited about his new job. In recent years, he has hosted radio programs alone, so he is looking forward to what it is like to work with a host couple after a long break and how he himself has developed as a radio host.
Verho says that he doesn’t know Esko Eerikaien very well before, even though they have known each other for years. In the future, Verho gets to spend more time with Eerikäinen than with any other person, six hours a day, four days a week.
– Getting to know a new person is a blast, Verho laughs.
– I feel that we are really different people and our lives have been very different. Two different worlds and generations meet. It’s always interesting. All the time, such a tense spark is bubbling, Verho says.

A violent disease
Verho recently spent a winter holiday in Cape Town. The South African holiday was full of adversity. First, the outbound trip stretched over several days due to canceled flights. Towards the end of the vacation, both Verho and his partner fell ill.
– It was probably the worst disease I’ve ever had in my life, if you don’t count dengue fever, Verho describes.
Verho got sick with dengue fever and West Nile fever while vacationing in Bali a year ago. This time it was probably just a violent stomach bug or food poisoning.
Verho was sick for five days and finally got help from a local hospital. The presenter spent a couple of hours in hospital, where he received antibiotics and fluids through a drip. It quickly eased the feeling and Verho was able to enjoy the last moments of his vacation while visiting the sights.
– The doctors said that it’s really common at this time of year for tourists to get this kind of stomach bug.
Verho has tried to give his body time to recover from being seriously ill. On Thursday, he went to the gym for the first time to work out after the trip. Fortunately, Verho says that he has recovered well from the attack.
