THEn premiere for the “Great Challenges” cycle this evening at 9.20pm Rai 2 proposes Gran Turismo – The story of an impossible dream. With Orlando Bloom and Archie Madekwe, the film reconstructs the true story of teenager Jann Mardenborough who became a professional racing driver of Nissan thanks to his skill with video games.

The very young Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe), the son of a former professional footballer (Djimon Hounsou), spends his days locked in the room playing Gran Turismoa car simulation video game which requires concentration, technique and reflexes. His father, worried about his future, considers him a boy without ambitionslittle more than a nerd incapable of dealing with real life.
The turning point came when a car manufacturer, Nissan decides to create a team of professional drivers by selecting them from among the best video gamers, through the innovative GT Academy project, created by Danny Moore (Orlando Bloom), Nissan marketing executive brilliant and ambitious.
This presents a unique opportunity for Jann to transform his passion into a concrete dream. However, the training, led by former pilot Jack Salter (David Harbour), is very tough and tests his talent, his resistance and his relationship with his father. In a challenge that goes far beyond the virtual world.

A coming of age at full speed inspired by a true story
Sports film with a classic structure, Gran Turismo it’s a surprisingly solid film in the way reworks a true story that already seems incredible in itself. Director Neill Blomkamp indeed manages to transform an operation born as pure marketing into an authentic story of growth, discipline and comparison with the risks of life. Even though he isn’t the protagonist main story of the film, Orlando Bloom gives one of the most mature performances of his career. The young Archie Madekwe instead is a British actor born in 1995 with an already very solid curriculum behind him. After acting for a long time in the theater, about ten years ago he passed in front of the camerastarring in major films – on Midsommar by Ari Aster – and big-budget series like See alongside Jason Momoa. He was recently seen in the cult Saltburn and in the Prime miniseries Steal.
