The regional broadcasters have a loyal viewer base. The number of viewers who watch as often or more than one year ago has remained stable. Regional news is especially appreciated for its reliability and topicality. But also by being “in touch” with the people from the neighborhood and accessibility.
Current events and mobility remain the most important areas of interest for viewers, followed by entertainment, tourism and municipal politics. Compared to 2024, there is less interest in current affairs, news and tourism. Younger generations (-35 years) are more interested in entertainment and relaxation, health, fitness, nightlife and lifestyle news.
To trust
Television also remains the most important medium for watching news programs for almost 90 percent of the respondents surveyed. About 1/3 of the total group and 1/2 of the younger generation also follow a regional channel on social media, which also expresses the general trends in the media world in this context.
“The results of the rating survey show the confidence of Flemish people in regional news: close, accessible and reliable,” said Flemish Media Minister Cieltje Van Achter. “We must cherish and strengthen that trust, especially by continuing to reach younger Flemish people with relevant regional news, on the platforms where they watch today.”
