The Dutch celebrity will never be the same again. For years celebrities have been aiming for the show media, but the new juice channels are relentless. “Stars can afford less now.”
In the past week, three celebrities have apologized: Lil Kleine, Glennis Grace and Charly Luske. All three have one thing in common: the controversy surrounding them has its roots in the juice channels, the new show media. Traditional show media such as RTL Boulevard and Story are standing by and watching.
sleaze and dirt
It’s no secret that the traditional show media has traditionally been a big hit with celebrities – Shownieuws in particular is notorious for this. However, the new juice channels are not on the red carpet and don’t care about all those stars. The consequence? All sleaze and dirt over the stars is thrown online without mercy.
It causes panic among celebrities; Irene Moors even fears for the future of the Dutch media world, but according to Yvonne Coldeweijer she has simply become too used to ass licking†
allow less
TV lawyer Natacha Harlequin thinks celebrities like Irene should adapt to the new reality. “You see that celebrities may find out that they can no longer afford everything. That the social ethical standard has really changed,” she says at the Shownieuws desk.
Dutch celebrities can no longer get away with misbehavior or star allures. “People talk to you about it. On the street, in a DM, your neighbor, your neighbor, everyone is talking about it.”
Preview function
Natacha points to the apologies that came this week from Glennis and Lil Kleine. They bow to the common people. “It strikes me that such a reaction comes very quickly. That also makes the celebrities more likely to think: what is going on here? Maybe a good thing, but that’s how it is.”
She continues: “In other words: that exemplary role you have is very nice when the duku’s roll your way, but if things go badly for you, you also get that cart with dredging stuff all over you. That applies to everyone, including us here at the table.”
public apology
Most people are critical of Glennis and Lil Kleine’s crocodile tears, but Natacha is positive about it. “I have to say: of everyone who publicly offers an apology, I always think: well, you do it anyway, you could have left it. Whether you believe it or not, that’s up to you.”
Can you leave it too? Then your career is immediately ruined, colleague Bart Ettekoven reproves her. “Can you leave it? You know, of course, that there comes a first moment when you have an interview, when you first walk over a red carpet. You will be asked questions about this in an interview, so of course you cannot avoid it completely.”
Image damage
Natacha: “No, but what I’m trying to say with that is: you can also choose, for example, not to make statements about this until during the hearing.”
Apologies or not: the reputational damage is permanent. Juice channels are life-threatening for celebrities who misbehave. “I just think that’s a fantastic thing”, responds juice queen Yvonne Coldeweijer. “What’s so bad about that?”
