Unfortunately, the last Oscars are over and next year’s will probably come too early for the group of young filmmakers in Haarlem. Led by Hakim Traïdia, a group of children learn to act, operate the camera or edit. And there is no lack of ambitions: “Winning an Oscar one day seems like something to me.”
About ten children listen carefully this afternoon to what Hakim Traïdia tells about filming and acting. The former Sesame Street resident gives lessons in his own theater, called Circus Hakim in Haarlem.
“Through these lessons I also remain a child myself”, Hakim beams when asked why he gives these lessons. “It keeps me young and positive. It gives me good energy and they inspire me.”
Where’s Peter?
During the first lesson, the young filmmakers learn to convey a message with different emotions. “I’ve learned that the same sentence comes across differently when you say it angry or sad,” says Casper, who has just stood on stage. “So I had to say anxiously: ‘Where is Peter?’ That sounded very different when I said that angrily again.”
Oscar
The children work together with Traïdia in ten weeks on a final film that they will make all by themselves. The filmmaker hopes to eventually be able to show the film at film festivals. According to Traïdia, there is talent in this group, which in ten years’ time could easily produce the first Haarlem winner of the coveted golden statue.
“Winning an Oscar, that seems cool to me,” says Collin. “Those are the biggest prizes in the movie world. So if I could get one someday, it would seem really fantastic.” But, before that, let’s bring this movie to a nice end.
