Leonie ter Braak has almost finished her first full week as RTL Tonight host. Will she help the program out of the abyss? “Nice woman, but she definitely can’t do a talk show.”
The big question is not if, but when the RTL Tonight desk will be exchanged for a table again. Almost all ‘new’ elements have already been removed from the program, but once that desk is demolished, the program will really be back to what the Beau, Humberto and Renze talk shows were. Did Renze Klamer have to leave the field for this? Insane.
Bennemars
Johan Derksen understands that Renze internally expressed strong criticism of the initial format of RTL Tonight. That cost him his head. “Renze Klamer has proven that they are completely wrong. He has been very brave,” says the VI mustache in his podcast Greetings from Grolloo.
“Renze said: ‘I am being saddled with an hour full of lame columns by Bennemars (Erben Wennemars, ed.) and the like by a gentleman who thinks he knows a lot about making TV.’ He then fills a section that no dog is interested in. I don’t find him funny and I don’t like him talking either.”
Bumping
Regular guests like Erben Wennemars are a horror, according to Johan. “He takes every opportunity, every evening, to report that his son has qualified for three distances at the Olympic Games, but he is not there for that and people are bothered by that.”
Renze was ‘absolutely right’ about RTL Tonight, according to the VI mustache. “Humberto and Beau are bouncing along nicely, they are taking their money and they are too cowardly to say: ‘This program is no good.’ They tell themselves: they just figure it out, but the money will be transferred.”
‘Leonie? No!’
Doesn’t Johan think things are getting better with Leonie ter Braak? “Yes, now that girl who used to work with us is there, Leonie ter Braak. A very nice woman, but she absolutely cannot do a talk show. Yes, it really is a mockery that program. And that Peter van der Vorst does not intervene. They had all attracted expensive people.”
“Klamer has bitten off, he has been criticized and a man who came up with it all and Peter van der Vorst who realized it, they are not happy with it. ‘Well, if you want to leave, just leave. Ten others for you!'”
Oildom
Oil stupid, Johan thinks so. “Klamer happens to be the best man they have in house. Put him there and let him do the filling. Then the program will start running again, because Klamer did an excellent job.”
Isn’t Renze something for SBS 6? “No, because we have Wilfred and he cannot be outdone.”
And for the VI replacement? “No, because that is what we have Hélène for. If there is ever another program on SBS, then that man is extremely suitable.”
Expensive guests
According to Johan, it cannot be long before the format change on the late evening of RTL 4 is reversed. “At some point someone will say, ‘Guys, we’re on the wrong track!’”
“You never see all those expensive guests anymore. They were paid crazy salaries to join us every now and then, but they never join!”
