Long-time puck player and former NHL player Jason Lafreniere has died at the age of 59.

According to the English club Sheffield Steelers, Lafreniere suffered a “massive” heart attack.

Lafreniere scored the championship-deciding goal for the Sheffield Steelers with an underhanded goal in 1997 against the Nottingham Panthers.

In the NHL, Lafreniere played 1986–89 for the Quebec Nordiques and the New York Rangers.

Lafreniere also played in Germany, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Spain, Scotland, Holland and Poland.
