After two final defeats, Poland prevailed against Switzerland in the final in Sydney.
The selection led by Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek won the final in Sydney 2-1 against Switzerland on Sunday (January 11th, 2026). Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski won the decisive mixed doubles against Belinda Bencic and Jakub Paul 6:4, 6:3.
Hurkacz defeats Wawrinka
The Poles, who had defeated the German team around Alexander Zverev and Eva Lys 3-0 in the preliminary round, fought back from a deficit in the final: Swiatek, second in the world rankings, lost her singles against Bencic 6:3, 0:6, 3:6.
Hubert Hurkacz equalized with a 6:3, 3:6, 6:3 against three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka. In the final doubles, Kawa/ Zielinski kept their nerve and used their second match point to win the title.
Third final in a row
The Polish team reached the final of the fourth edition of the team competition for the third time in a row – but in previous years there had been defeats against Germany (2024) and the USA (2025).
The tournament is considered an important preparation event for the Australian Open. The first Grand SlamTournament of the year starts on January 18th.
