In a test match, Kevin Behrens pushed his teammate over and insulted him badly. Now the former Bundesliga attacker is remorseful.

It was a scene that is rare even in a test match: Kevin Behrens completely lost control in the FC Lugano jersey – compared to his own teammate. Three days after the incident, the striker has now made a public statement.

On Friday, in a test against Viktoria Pilsen, there was a scandal in the middle of the game. In an ongoing scene, Kevin Behrens stormed towards his teammate Georgios Koutsias, pushed him over and then audibly insulted him as a “freak”. The incident was broadcast live and immediately caused strong reactions.

That same evening, FC Lugano clearly condemned the behavior of its attacker in a statement.

On Monday, the club reported again – this time with a statement from the player himself. Behrens, who played once for the German national team in 2023, faced the team and took responsibility, according to the club’s website.

“I would like to apologize for what happened, especially to Koutsias. My behavior towards him was inappropriate and unacceptable,” Behrens is quoted as saying. And further: “I should never have allowed myself to do something like that.”

As the club reports, the incident was dealt with internally. In addition, “the appropriate disciplinary measures were examined and implemented.” The club left it open what specific measures were taken.
