The hospital was hit by two explosions on November 25 and 26, 2024. A 39-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested for this purpose in February last year. This man has now been sentenced to two years in prison and to pay compensation of more than 40,000 euros.

On January 12, 2025, another explosive went off at the Beverwijk hospital. A 37-year-old man from Beverwijk was arrested for this three days later. He has not yet appeared in court.

Fear among patients and healthcare staff

One of the explosions caused a fire at the hospital. No injuries were caused by the blasts, but they did cause fear among patients and healthcare staff, turned out last November in court.

The hospital called the explosions ‘serious’ and took extra safety measures. During interrogations, the police gained more insight into the reason for the explosions, although the exact reason is not yet known.

Police suspect connection

The police previously announced that they believed there was a connection between these explosions. Heemskerker, arrested on Friday, is seen as a possible client.
