9-year-old Thomas Dam from Eext is not made of sugar. He braves all weather conditions in shorts, including this very cold snow week. He wears shorts for Kika for a year. He came up with the idea through his grandfather, who also has cancer. Because this disease also occurs in children, he decided to raise money.
Some people look at me crazy,” says Thomas. “But as a child you want to be able to play outside in the snow, but you might be lying in a hospital bed. And that’s why I thought: I’ll do this for all those children, so that maybe they can play outside later too.”
Thomas did not choose a week or a day, but a year. “If you wear shorts for a year, you can raise more money for more children, who can then get better with medicine.”
He also holds up in the cold and snow. “Sometimes I feel very cold, but when I walk, run or play I feel less cold. Yesterday I was playing in the snow and fell into a lump of snow one meter deep. Then I was very cold.”
He still has to last in his shorts until the summer holidays, but has already raised quite a lot of money, 2,425 euros to be precise.
