Around 1:30 am, a heavy fire broke out in a hangar in a side street of the Grote Weg in Rekkem. A local resident discovered the fire and immediately notified the emergency services. Upon their arrival, flames were already shooting from the roof of the building, causing the fire brigade to quickly scale up.
Some residents of surrounding houses also had to temporarily leave their homes, but were able to return later. The fire spread quickly due to the strong wind, but because the hangar was located at a considerable distance from other buildings, the fire did not spread.
