Ring in the new year with family or friends in France or Italy and also enjoy a few days of holiday. That was the plan for Iris (32), Wander (58) and Anne-Pauline (27). New Year’s Eve was more than a success, but the return trip to Amsterdam is anything but smooth: the three are still stuck at their holiday destination.

Difficult retreat

According to Iris de Vries, the journey from Brittany to Sloterdijk is normally easy to do by bus and train, but unfortunately that was not the case this time. She spent New Year’s Eve in Plouzélambre, France, with friends who run a campsite there. She was supposed to return home on Monday morning, but that was canceled because her train was canceled due to bad weather.

“Then there will be snow in the city and I won’t be there,” she says on the phone from Rennes. “There’s nothing here. I would have liked to take a winter walk in this weather.” The designer is now temporarily staying with an acquaintance in the French city and hopes to return home later today.
