The winter images in Drenthe are almost addictive, but yesterday’s stormy weather also brought some danger. For example, several N-roads in the province were impassable because the province of Drenthe did not come to grit there.

Today the weather looks a lot calmer, because it is thawing in almost the entire province. Yet it can be dangerous on the road, due to snow that is still on the road surface. The KNMI still issues code yellow for the whole of the Netherlands.

You have to be especially careful on some provincial roads, which the province has not been able to clear of snow. It even seemed for a while that a number of roads would have to be closed due to insufficient capacity, but the province was still able to scale up last night.

According to Rijkswaterstaat, it is important in these weather conditions to adjust your driving style and keep sufficient distance from the car in front of you.

Yesterday the buses in Drenthe were not running for most of the day and Qbuzz is not yet on the road this morning. According to the spokesperson, it is a safety issue. From 9 a.m. the carrier will check which lines can start running again.

NS and Arriva operate with an adjusted timetable and both train operators continue to recommend checking the journey in the travel planners as late as possible. Despite the snow that fell yesterday, train traffic was relatively unaffected in the north.

The chance of stormy weather is a lot greater on Friday. According to the KNMI, 10 to 15 centimeters of snow may fall locally in the Northern Netherlands. In addition, due to the strong easterly wind, there is a chance of snowdrifts and snow dunes may form. However, depending on the temperature, precipitation can also partly fall in the form of rain.

During the day, the KNMI will discuss the weather situation for Friday. Although the weather picture is still uncertain, it is possible that the weather institute will scale up the weather warning for tomorrow, just like yesterday.
