Will Vinícius Junior become the most expensive transfer in Premier League history? Apparently Chelsea FC wants to sign the Brazilian.
After signing Liam Rosenior as their new coach, Chelsea FC are planning their next big coup with the transfer of Vinícius Junior. At least that’s what the English “Guardian” reports. According to the article, the Blues are said to be willing to pay 135 million pounds (155 million euros). Vinícius Junior would replace Alexander Isak. Liverpool paid the equivalent of 145 million euros to Newcastle United for the Swede last summer.
In the past few weeks there has been repeated fuss about Vinícius Junior. Shortly before Christmas he was substituted in the 2-0 win against Sevilla FC and was punished with whistles from the fans. The 25-year-old then swapped his profile picture on social media. Instead of wearing the Real jersey, he can now be seen in the Brazilian national team jersey.
This fact and the unclear contract situation continue to fuel rumors of transfers. The current working paper runs until 2027, and there is currently no prospect of an extension, although there was hope for this a few days ago. In an Instagram story, the winger posted a photo of himself in the white Madrid jersey. In Spanish, he wrote: “Here’s to an amazing 2026! Let’s go, Madrid forever! I love you all.”
After Vinícius Junior was substituted and booed again last Sunday in the 5-1 win against Betis Sevilla, coach Xabi Alonso defended his professional: “I think Vini contributed a lot to our game today. He found his way in well and provoked the yellow card against Ortiz, so Betis had to change their right-back early on. Vini was very dangerous, especially in the first half.”
