After a chaotic day yesterday, the wintry weather still has a firm grip on North Holland today. New snow is expected, but also slippery conditions during the morning rush hour. Follow all updates here.

There are already traffic jams in a number of places in the province. For example, you are stuck on the A1 towards Amsterdam between the Muiderberg junction and the Watergraafsmeer junction. Three lanes are closed due to an accident, causing a delay of about 35 minutes.

An accident also happened on the N242. You are stuck from Sint Pancras to the connection with the A9 and it will take you 20 minutes longer to get there.

Today, road users must also take into account ‘treacherous slippery conditions’, Rijkswaterstaat warns. The snow continued last night and this morning. Because it was also freezing, wet road sections and snow residues could freeze up.

The road authority uses all the gritters and snow plows it has, more than 1,200 throughout the Netherlands. 1,500 people are working to combat slippery conditions. In total, they have already traveled 124,000 kilometers since Sunday, Rijkswaterstaat calculates. Despite that effort, there were accidents in many places today due to the slippery conditions.

To remove ice plaques from the road, the road authority also has so-called emergency machines at its disposal: the Lavastorm and the Firestorm. These have also been used repeatedly in recent days.

If you are going to fly today, please note that your flight will not take place. Many flights to and from Schiphol are also canceled today. According to the airport, there have been approximately 350 flights so far, but that number could increase. About three hundred KLM flights were canceled yesterday.
