Ylex radio host Melina “Mellu” Mäkelä had breast reduction surgery in December.

After coming home from the hospital, Mäkelä told Iltalehte that the surgery was done in a public hospital. Mäkelä was most nervous about being put to sleep during the operation, which has never been done to him before.

The presenter says that he waited a long time to get into surgery and finally got to the operation when someone had canceled his own appointment. She has wanted breast reduction surgery since she was young.

– For health reasons. Sports and movement would be easier and lighter and I would be able to run. And there wouldn’t be such terrible neck, back or shoulder pains or headaches, the presenter opens.

– Breast size also affects sports. If I’ve gone for a run, for example, they are [rinnat] were always in pain, he adds.

Mäkelä does not want to reveal the cup size of her breasts before or after the surgery, but states that she wanted smaller breasts and “she got it”. Mäkelä says that her partner was understanding about her surgery.

– He thought that if it is my wish and it would help me health-wise, then of course it is a good thing for me. Of course he has been supportive in this.

After getting home, Mäkelä received treatment instructions from the doctor, which included wound care and rest. In addition, the presenter was banned from sports for 4-6 weeks, except for walking. He was also not allowed to lift anything weighing more than three kilograms for a month.

– I have to sleep on my back, which of course brought challenges. But little by little it started to take shape. I have a u-shaped sleeping pillow, which is really good, he said about his recovery after surgery.

Mäkelä wants to talk openly about his operation, because he knows that many people want to have that operation.

– They may not have dared to move forward with regard to the matter. The process is a bit clumsy, so people wonder if they can get the surgery and what the criteria are, the host says.

– Of course, at this point I can’t say whether I recommend this or not. Everyone has their own personal experience, and I myself am only in the recovery phase. For now, I think I will be quite happy with this change, he says in conclusion.
