Canceled train rides, long traffic jams and slippery platforms: many North Hollanders who had to take to the road or rail this morning had to deal with the consequences of the severe winter weather. Travelers also experienced inconvenience at Hilversum station, although they tried to make the best of it.
It is slippery at the entrance to Hilversum station in the morning. Some travelers slip, but most are on their guard and manage to hold their own despite the snowfall.
Many people are on their way to work or school, despite the fact that the KNMI covers the entire province code orange proclaimed. For many, this meant getting up extra early, and even then it turns out to be difficult to arrive on time, travelers tell NH.
Well prepared for the road
For example, Amar, who lived in Oman for a long time and now goes to school in Laren, woke up around 6 a.m. Yet he still fears he will be late. “While cycling I hit someone else’s wheel and fell. That was my first fall, after that I fell twice more.” Moreover, he experienced some inconvenience at Utrecht Central station. “It was very cold and wet. Luckily my train wasn’t delayed, so it wasn’t too bad.”
Margretha, who had to travel all the way from Hoorn for a course, has also had a long morning. Initially she wanted to go by car, but due to the winter conditions she decided to take the train. “I heard from someone who is taking the same course that they went back home. They were pushed off the road, so I didn’t want to risk that.”
Despite the necessary adjustments to her day, she remains positive. “It’s a matter of good preparation,” she says. “Just leave early, that’s important.”
