PALM BEACH (dpa-AFX) – The US government wants to work with his Vice President Delcy Rodríguez after Venezuela’s head of state Nicolás Maduro was removed from power. “We just had a conversation with her and she’s basically ready to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again, quite simply,” US President Donald Trump said at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

According to the Venezuelan constitution, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez would take over the reins of government until new elections if the head of state were to fail. As Foreign Minister (2014-2017), Rodríguez shaped the confrontational course against the USA, which she continued as Vice President. In his press conference, Trump also announced that the US wanted to temporarily take over leadership in Venezuela.

“I mean, there’s no one who could take the office,” Trump said. “She had a long conversation with Marco and said, ‘We’ll do whatever you need.’ I think she was very accommodating, but she really has no choice.”/cpe/DP/he
