THE 17-year-old born in Genoa was in the Crans-Montana club on New Year’s Eve when the fire broke out. Federgolf published a post of condolence for his death, but his name is still among the missing: “We are waiting for the DNA test”, says the family
Hanging by a very thin thread of hope, these are crucial hours for the family and friends of 17-year-old Emanuele Galeppini. Born in Genoa but resident in Dubai, the 17-year-old promising young golfer was at the Constellation in Crans-Montana on the tragic New Year’s Eve, when the fire broke out which caused at least 40 deaths and more than 120 injuries. But let’s go in order.
what do we know
—
– Emanuele’s father had gone to the front of the bar to look for him and had launched an appeal because he said he was certain that he was in the bar when the fire broke out. The last time he heard from his son was at midnight for greetings, then silence. But then Federgolf announced his death on the morning of January 2nd by posting a message of condolence: “The Italian Golf Federation mourns the passing of Emanuele Galeppini, a young athlete who brought with him passion and authentic values - we read in the note -. In this moment of great pain, our thoughts go to his family and to all those who loved him. Emanuele, you will remain forever in our hearts”. However, Galeppini’s name is (at the time of writing) officially still among the missing. Why?
DNA test
—
“For the moment Emanuele is still on the missing list and we are waiting for the DNA result”, said his uncle Sebastiano Galeppini. “The names of any deceased will be communicated by the Swiss authorities first to the families and then immediately afterwards to the Italian authorities”, explained the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani. in the absence of confirmation by DNA testing. “The will of Emanuele Galeppini’s family is to await the outcome of the DNA test. We join with deep respect in their wait, renewing closeness in this delicate moment”, and these are the words published on Facebook by the mayor of Rapallo (Genoa) Elisabetta Ricci where Galeppini lives. Emanuele’s cell phone – according to some sources – would have been found in the morgue where the bodies of the victims of the tragedy are taken but the examination of the remains of the body which would have been officially attributed to him is awaited.
