The cross-country skier who caused a stir a couple of days ago with his “Vantaan Mogadishu” statements Vilma Nissinen was tight-lipped in his first public interview after the incident.

Nissinen advanced to the Tour de Ski Saturday’s sprint race qualifiers. In the interview with Viaplay, there was no analysis of the performance.

Vilma, the place opened up. What was the qualification like?

– Well, I won’t say anything.

Now say something?

– I won’t say anything.

What kind of thoughts do you leave with?

– I…I won’t say. I don’t know.

Viaplay’s ski expert Sami Jauhojärvi knew what it was about. He recounted the events to the viewers, setting his message diplomatically.

– I was able to pull myself together well after all that spinning. In the 17th qualifier, Jauhojärvi praised Nissinen’s performance.

– Don’t dare say anything now, narrator Jussi Eskola stated before moving on to the next topic.

The throw, which Nissinen apparently intended to be humorous, caused an upset. Mayor of Vantaa Pekka Timonen thought Nissinen’s comments thoughtless.

The Ski Federation said yesterday that it would resign from Nissinen’s comments. In the press release, the skier apologized for his words.
