It was a relatively small fire at the shopping center. A shopping cart with items was on fire. Firefighters and police officers were involved in extinguishing the fire shot with fireworks.
‘Too sick for words’
It was just one of many incidents where emergency workers were attacked. The chairman of the Dutch Police Union Nine Kooiman writes on She herself worked a shift in Amsterdam. She was said to have been pelted at least three times.
“The Netherlands can be happy with these heroes, who acted so professionally and appropriately,” Kooiman writes. “There are many arrests and there is peace. It just came at too high a price.”
She calls it ‘too sick for words’ that aid workers have been thwarted and targeted.
