A resident of Nuenen won 15 million euros in the New Year’s Eve draw of the State Lottery. The other part of the main prize of 30 million fell in Amstelveen. The Staatsloterij guides the winners with financial advice and tips on how to deal with the prize. A total of 7.9 million New Year’s Eve tickets were sold.

New Year’s Eve in Brabant was turbulent with various incidents. A young child was killed in a collision in Bergen op Zoom. In Breda, officers were pelted with Molotov cocktails and in Eindhoven a residential tower was on fire. The emergency number 112 was temporarily overloaded.

Various Brabant drivers are participating in the Dakar Rally 2026. Janus van Kasteren is switching from truck to car, while 60-year-old debutant Dick van Culenborg from Hank is participating with a buggy. The rally will take place in Saudi Arabia from January 4 to 18.

Baby Daan from Dongen is one of the first Brabant babies of 2026. He was born at 4:13 am in the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg. Parents Joyce and Dirk spent New Year’s Eve in the hospital. Five babies were even born at the Elkerliek Hospital in Helmond.
