It was a busy night for the police and fire brigade in Drenthe. Fire broke out in several places, including a house in Roden. In Assen, riot police were deployed after officers were pelted with fireworks
Around 2 a.m. the fire alarm went off at a daycare center at the Boomgaard in the Asser Kloosterveen district. Unknown people had thrown fireworks into the building. While the fire brigade and police were investigating, many young people were out and about. They threw heavy fireworks at the emergency workers, after which the police decided to call for extra reinforcement. A minor suspect has been arrested and taken to the station.
The unrest in the Kloosterveen district comes as no surprise. In recent weeks it has often been restless in the evenings in the neighborhood.
