Electric bicycles are pedal-assisted bikes. The small electric motor with which they are equipped must serve exclusively as a limited support for the action of the legs. Instead, as we see every day on the roads, all too often these vehicles come illegally make up and used as if they were mopeds. And they speed at extremely dangerous speeds for those who use them, as well as for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. This time the rapid intervention of the police prevented an accident from happening. It happened in Trento on December 31, 2025.

A local police patrol in the Trentino capital stopped a 41-year-old man. He was wearing a motorcycle helmet and riding along a cycle path on an e-bike, an electrically assisted bicycle. At a speed that is certainly not slow. Especially not typical of a normal bicycle. Subsequent checks confirmed the irregularity of the vehicle. It was rigged and capable of reaching 85 km/h, a motorcycle speed. The owner admitted that he was aware of the irregularity of that vehicle and had purchased it on a Chinese website. The bicycle was seized and the man was fined a total of 1,200 euros.
