The Kölner Haie continued their successful streak in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with a goal spectacle. The leaders won on matchday 34 at the Iserlohn Roosters 7:4 (1:1, 4:2, 2:1) and celebrated their 13th win in the last 14 games at the end of the year.
The twelfth-placed team from Iserlohn started the game strongly. Eric Cornel (9th) scored the first goal, but Cologne captain Moritz Müller almost equalized in return (10th). At the start of a high-scoring second period, Colin Ugbekile (23′) gave the Roosters the lead again before the Haie turned the game around with four goals within ten minutes and then decisively gained their side.
Meanwhile, Haie’s pursuer ERC Ingolstadt had to accept a serious defeat. Ingolstadt lost 3:5 (0:2, 1:2, 2:1) against the Schwenninger Wild Wings, who had not won in nine games – and thus second place went to Adler Mannheim.
The Mannheim team won 3:2 (1:0, 0:1, 1:1, 1:0) after extra time at the Nuremberg Ice Tigers; EHC Red Bull Munich also beat the Augsburg Panthers 3:2 (0:0, 2:1, 0:1, 1:0) in overtime. Munich has left the ice as winners ten times in the last eleven games.
