Steen looks back on his political career with gratitude. “I would like to thank everyone, especially my voters, who have supported me for seven years. The many conversations with residents have also always given me a lot of energy and inspiration,” he says. “Although I end my political work with a heavy heart, my involvement with De Haan remains strong.”

From 2018 to 2024, Kris Steen was chairman of the municipal council, member of the Bredene-De Haan police council and director of intermunicipal waste company IVBO. He has served as an opposition councilor since 2025. He is now focusing on his recovery, his family and his flower shop Creaflor in Wenduine.

Who will succeed him in the municipal council will be announced later. The swearing-in ceremony of the new councilor is scheduled for the municipal council on January 29, 2026.
