A special episode of classical music was seen on Saturday night in the Elämäni biisi program.

In the program, pianist Lenni-Kalle Taipaleen, writer-musician Raakel Lignelli, TV personality Sampo Marjomaan, news anchor Tommy Fränti and musician Anna-Mari Kähärä’s classical music favorites were guessed.

The fourth piece in the program was the French composer Jules Massenet Meditation– work from the opera Thaïs. The performance’s violin soloist was 14-year-old Lilja Haatainen.

Haatainen’s young age came up in the conversation immediately after the performance, when host Katja Ståhl opened up about the background of the opera.

– The opera is based on an old legend about a courtesan named Thaïs. So it was perfect for a 14-year-old girl to play, Ståhl said.

Taipale started the guessing round.

– It was a crazy call. And I thought, hey, 14 – moped, Taipale would growl, making the audience laugh.

Koululainen magazine according to Haatainen, he started playing the violin at the age of three, when he saw a violinist a year older than him at a concert.

– When I got my first violin, I wanted to look at it all the time and include it in my music. From the beginning I felt that the violin was my thing, Haatainen told the magazine.

Helsingin Sanomat Haatainen made his debut at the age of ten at Musiikkitalo as a soloist of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Young Soloists concert. He has also played with the Lahti Sinfonia, the Oulu Sinfonia and the Lappeenranta City Orchestra, among others. In 2022, Haatainen won the under-14 category of the international Louis Spohr violin competition in Germany.
