Ricardo Pietreczko in action

Ricardo Pietreczko was eliminated in the third round of the Darts World Championship in London – he was the favorite against the Swede Andreas Harrysson on Saturday evening (December 27th, 2025). This means that only the three German professionals Martin Schindler, Gabriel Clemens and Arno Merk are left in the tournament.

Pietreczko started nervously in his 4-2 defeat at Alexandra Palace in London, while the Swede was immediately up to speed with an average of over 100 points. The German fell behind 0-1, but stayed focused and forced the fifth leg in the second round. And then he made the first big exclamation mark of this game: “Pikachu” still had 158 points on the scoreboard, checked this high finish with triple-20, triple-20 and double-19 and clenched his fist: he won this set with 3:2 and thus equalized to 1:1.

Big problems with scoring

But Harrysson, who is considered one of the best darts players in Scandinavia, was initially unimpressed. In the third set he gave Pietreczko no chance at all and won all three legs. Pikachu’s main problem: He couldn’t score, kept missing the triple fields and therefore didn’t get to use his greatest strength: finishing on the double fields.

The Berliner showed what he can basically do when the score was 1:2 sets and 0:1: He achieved his second high finish of the evening with 116 points. Shortly afterwards, Pietreczko’s fist came again: with a hit on double 16, he won the fourth set and was back at eye level.

Always 140 shots at Harrysson

But it remained tough, what Pietreczko did still looked difficult. While Harrysson repeatedly started his legs with 140 points, his opponent was happy if he even had a big triple. The result: Set five, like set three, went to “Dirty Harry” with 3-0 legs. The appropriate statistic at this point: Pikachu had played 29 shots without a triple, Harrysson only 14.

The hope that the Swede might start to think and become nervous in the face of victory vanished pretty quickly: Harrysson continued to score confidently, landed his first high finish in the sixth set with 146 points and was celebrated shortly afterwards for reaching the round of 16.
