Courted by Bayern Munich
With Ajax Amsterdam, coach Erik ten Hag is on a double course in the Netherlands. The question of his future is still unclear. The 52-year-old, whose contract runs until 2023, has now indicated that he could also imagine a position in the Bundesliga – and he trusts the talents Ryan Gravenberch (19) and Noussair Mazraoui (24), who were recently traded in Munich and Dortmund. to assert itself straight away in Germany.
“Of course, if you’re ambitious, you want to take the next step in the Bundesliga, Premier League or LaLiga at some point. I always tell the guys to take care of it after the season,” ten Hag said in an interview withsports1‘ asked about the interest of other clubs. He is certain that Mazraoui and Gravenberch will survive in the Bundesliga and “could perform well”.

In particular, Gravenberch, who is already experienced for his young age with over 100 Eredivisie games, is very far in terms of sporting development with his box-to-box qualities, “his athleticism and physique”, but “can still learn a lot”. Although there is enormous competition waiting for the midfielder in the event of a change in Munich, “he is also a guy who needs challenges. He can certainly adapt to such a high level of quality as at Bayern. You saw that in the Champions League too,” said ten Hag. However, the coach has not yet given up hope that the midfielder will stay.
Goals & highlights from Ajax talent Ryan Gravenberch
According to the daily newspaper “Telegraaf”, FC Bayern had increased its offer for the youngest professional in Ajax history since 2018 by another 2 million euros from 15 to 17 million euros as a fixed amount. Bonuses could increase the sum to 25 million euros, which is still a long way from the rumored 35 million euros demand of the Dutch. However, both clubs would draw closer.

Ten Hag on Manchester United rumours: ‘I don’t want to rule anything out’
When asked about his own future and in particular the speculation about Ralf Rangnick’s successor at Manchester United, the coach kept a low profile: “Manchester United is a great club with great fans. (…) My focus is currently only on Ajax. But in football you never know. I don’t want to rule anything out. I’m currently employed here at Ajax to perform. (…) I know that in football everything can change from one day to the next. If at some point I decide to take the next step, I hope that people here will understand.”
The coach only wants to think more about his future after the end of the season, but the Bundesliga is also a goal for him in the short or medium term: “The Bundesliga is a fantastic league and I hope that I can work there in the future. (…) I think it’s fantastic to experience sports in Germany. The cohesion, giving everything for success – that is a climate in which I would like to work at some point.”
Regardless of the destination, ten Hag needs to ensure certain factors in order to operate successfully, he said. “For me it is important that a club presents me with a concrete plan with an idea. What is the goal of the association? Where is he going? Why do they want me as a coach? If everything fits, I think we can come together.”
