The 25-year-old was reported at large to the Verona Public Prosecutor’s Office

After three days of searching, a 25 year old from Caprino Veronese was identified and reported by the Carabinieri for having opened fire, last 20 December 2025, against a group of cyclists from the “ASDSC Padovani” team during an overtaking maneuver along the Abetone and Brennero state road 12, near the municipality of Periin the Verona area.

By combining the data from the cameras along the route thanks to some relevant details, from the license plate to a non-functioning headlight, the Carabinieri of the Caprino Veronese Company identified and identified the person responsible for the attack, a 25-year-old with no criminal record who, according to the first details, would have acted because annoyed by having to overtake cyclists and because it was driven by a “generalized hatred towards cyclists”.

The 25-year-old, in a dark car, pulled the bikes alongside and fired two shots with a firearmleaving the young athletes in shock. During the search of the young man’s house and car, the officers also seized the gun, loaded with blankswhich the attacker used against the young cyclists of Alessandro Petacchi’s team and which he illegally possessed.

The 25-year-old, according to a note from the Carabinieri, was reported while at liberty to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Verona, as he is seriously suspected of the crimes of aggravated threat, carrying weapons or objects capable of offending and dangerous explosions.
