(toskanews) – Big maneuvers around Christmas al Louvre Museumtwo months after the theft of the century. Some workers installed a grate on the offending window through which the thieves passed and stole undisturbed, in broad daylight and in 10 minutes, last October 19th. 19th century jewels worth almost 90 million eurosas national treasures of the Crown of France.

The accessibility of the window was one of the many security shortcomings found following checks following the theft: the most visited museum in the world had a system obsolete and full of flawscritical issues reported without anyone intervening. This very window had been indicated as a “weak point” in an old appraisal by the jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels according to the French newspaper Le Monde. Then again poorly directed or non-existent security cameras and the password that gave access to the entire system chosen in a not very professional way: it was “Louvre”.

In recent months the gang has been identified and there have been several arrests, but the jewels were never found.
